A very bright fireball was seen over Texas, U.S. at around 03:24 UTC on July 25, 2022. A sonic boom was associated with this event, indicating that pieces of the object might have survived down to the ground.
The American Meteor Society (AMS) received 219 eyewitness reports over the next couple of hours.1
This fireball was mainly seen from Texas, but the AMS has also received reports from Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
The initial computer-generated trajectory shows that this fireball entered the atmosphere over Cistern, Texas and ended its flight just a few miles west of Austin, TX.
Several witnesses near the flight path reported hearing a delayed sonic boom, indicating that small pieces of this object may have survived down to the ground.
However, any meteorites found are probably just small fragments.
