CHINA-US relations are now at crisis levels following the end of a high-level meeting between representatives from both states.
Following the meeting on Monday, Chinese officials accused the US of retaining Beijing as an “imagined enemy”. After the talks in the Chinese city of Tianjin, officials ordered Washington to change its stance as relations now remain at a stalemate. According to reports, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng told US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, the relationship is now at “a stalemate”.
A statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry also accused the US of continuing a stance of bullying smaller nations.
A further statement from the ministry said: “It seems that a whole-of-government and whole-of-society campaign is being waged to bring China down.
“It is as if when China’s development is contained, all US domestic and external challenges would go away, and America would become great again and Pax Americana would continue to go on. The U.S. keeps making an issue with China.
“It’s as if the U.S. side has nothing to talk about except about China.
“We urge the United States to change its highly misguided mindset and dangerous policy.”
Reports also claimed Chinese officials had presented the US team with a list of supposed errors, state-sponsored media agency Xinhua reported.
Among the list of errors, China called on the US to lift sanctions on members of the Chinese Communist Party.
They also included calls to lift visa restrictions on Chinese students.
An accompanying statement from the US team claimed talks had been firm and frank.
The State Department insisted the US does not wish to clash with China going forward.
A statement said: “The Deputy Secretary underscored that the United States welcomes the stiff competition between our countries — and that we intend to continue to strengthen our own competitive hand — but that we do not seek conflict with the PRC.”
China-US relations have continued to remain strained following Joe Biden’s inauguration.
China has also been accused of stealing intellectual property.
The West has also accused the state of spreading misinformation regarding the pandemic.
A separate statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry added: “It is the United States, not anybody else, who is the inventor, and patent and intellectual property owner of coercive diplomacy.
“It is the United States who has engaged in broad unilateral sanctions, long-arm jurisdiction and interference in other countries’ internal affairs.
