PresidentTrump on Thursday criticized the 35 fellow Republicans in the House who voted with Democrats on their bill to create a commission investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, calling them “wayward Republicans.”
“See, 35 wayward Republicans – they just can’t help themselves. We have much better policy and are much better for the Country, but the Democrats stick together, the Republicans don’t,” Trump said in his statement.
Trump’s comment follow the Democrat-controlled House on Wednesday voting 252 to 175 in favor of creating an independent, 9/11-style commission to investigate the riot. Trump had previously voiced his opposition to the commission, called it a “Democrat trap.”
“They don’t have the Romneys, Little Ben Sasses, and Cheneys of the world,” said Trump, referring to Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney and Republican Sens. Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse, who have publicly opposes Trump. “Unfortunately, we do. Sometimes there are consequences to being ineffective and weak. The voters understand!”
