The NHS Covid pass will need three doses to be valid once the boosters have been around for a reasonable time, the Health Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed.

People will no longer be classed as “fully vaccinated” unless they have had two main doses and a booster, once every adult has had “a reasonable amount of time” to get jabbed.

Mr Javid was speaking in the House of Commons when he made the announcement.

Replying to a question from the opposition about the lateral flow and PCR tests being out of stock today, he added that there are millions of tests in stock but the “limiting factor” is the capacity to deliver them.

Mr Javid said the government has reached “new arrangements” with companies including Amazon to ensure tests get delivered.

On the target of offering every adult a chance to get jabbed with their booster by the end of the year, he added: “That does not mean every single person necessarily can get that booster.

“it requires them to come forward and taken up that offer, as well as everything else going right in this huge expansion plan.”

Earlier today government data revealed that 38 more people had died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Figures also showed that infections have increased by 54,661 in the last day.

NHS England also announced it will return to level 4 – the highest level of emergency preparedness – with the Omicron variant causing alarm among experts.

The news comes as the Omicron variant looks set to become the dominant strain of coronavirus in London by tomorrow, just weeks after it was first detected in the UK.
