{"id":38700,"date":"2023-10-04T17:56:58","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T00:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cww7news.com\/?p=38700"},"modified":"2023-10-04T17:56:58","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T00:56:58","slug":"donald-trump-on-potential-speakership-bid-total-focus-is-being-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cww7news.com\/donald-trump-on-potential-speakership-bid-total-focus-is-being-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump on Potential Speakership Bid: \u2018Total Focus Is Being President\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former President Donald Trump downplayed the idea of becoming speaker of the House on Wednesday while noting \u201ca lot of people have been calling\u201d him about the possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll I can say is we\u2019ll do whatever\u2019s best for the country and for the Republican Party,\u201d Trump said in the New York State courthouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll do whatever it is to help, but my total focus is being president and honestly making America great again \u2014 because we are living in a country in decline,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a country that\u2019s failing badly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump added the Republican Party has \u201cgreat people\u201d who can \u201cdo a great job as speaker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few of the leading contenders for the position appear to be Judiciary chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), the majority whip, is also a top contender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of people have asked me about it [the speakership race],\u201d Trump said, again noting his focus is on the race for president, where he is leading \u201cby 50 points,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cMy focus is totally on that. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Bob Good (R-VA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McCarthy apparently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/10\/04\/house-republicans-take-revenge-on-democrats-for-helping-oust-kevin-mccarthy-as-speaker\/\">believed<\/a>&nbsp;Rep.
